Details on attending Samsara US Premiere at SBIFF Feb 1

January 16, 2012

Some details for those of you planning on attending the Santa Barbara film festival screening:

SBIFF isn't selling individual tickets to Samsara, but any ticket from the SBIFF "Minipak" packages will get you into the screening.

Purchase minipaks here: http://shop.sbiff.org/category-s/1820.htm and keep in mind that, for example, if you get the 4 ticket Minipak, that can also get 4 people into one film (as opposed to getting one person into four films).

We are looking forward to the US premiere of Samsara, and hope to see a lot of you there. Producer Mark Magidson will be doing a Q&A after the film.

Lisa Gerrard discusses the music for Samsara

January 2, 2012

More about Lisa: A founding member of the seminal band Dead Can Dance, Lisa contributed a piece of music to the Baraka soundtrack entitled "Host of the Seraphim." It remains one of Dead Can Dance's best loved songs.

Over the last two decades, she has composed for or contributed music to nearly 100 films. She won a Golden Globe Award for her scored contributions to the film Gladiator.  Lisa's efforts on the Baraka soundtrack represented her first work in film.

Lisa's work on Samsara proved to be a kind of homecoming. She and Mark Magidson, producer of both Baraka and Samsara, struck up a close friendship while working on the earlier film. In 1995, Mark directed and produced the Dead Can Dance concert film Toward the Within.  Michael Stearns, the musical director of Samsara, also worked with Lisa on Baraka.

Michael Stearns discusses Samsara

January 11, 2012

In this video, Michael Stearns, musical director for both Baraka  and Samsara, talks about how watching a non-verbal film is about surrendering to the experience of the film. He compares the experience of non-verbal film to a visit to a sacred temple.

We hope you are enjoying these interviews - we'll be adding more soon.
